The film is based on the real story of HachikÃ…, who was born in 1923 in Japan. He was adopted by HidesaburÃ… Ueno, a professor of agriculture at Tokyo Imperial University. Ueno and HachikÃ… had a close bond and followed a daily routine of going to and from the Shibuya train station. In 1925, Ueno died of a cerebral hemorrhage while giving a lecture. HachikÃ… was unaware of his death and waited for him at the station as usual. He did this every day until his own death in 1935.
HachikÃ…'s story became widely known in Japan after a newspaper article was published in 1932. Many people were moved by his loyalty and visited him at the station to offer him food and comfort. He also received attention from national and international media. In 1934, a bronze statue of HachikÃ… was erected in front of the station, with Ueno's former student and HachikÃ…'s caretaker Hirokichi Saito present at the unveiling. The statue was melted down during World War II, but a new one was commissioned in 1948 by The Society for Recreating the HachikÃ… Statue and still stands there today.
HachikÃ…'s story has inspired many books, films, and artworks around the world. He is considered a national hero in Japan and a cultural icon of loyalty and fidelity. His loyalty is also celebrated every year on April 8th, which is known as HachikÃ… Day. On this day, hundreds of dog lovers gather at the Shibuya station to pay tribute to the faithful dog and his owner. 061ffe29dd
