Devayani: The first wife of Yayati. She is the daughter of Shukracharya and Jayanti, the daughter of Indra, the king of the gods. She is beautiful, intelligent, proud, and arrogant. She falls in love with Kacha, the son of Brihaspati, the guru of the gods, who comes to learn from her father. However, Kacha rejects her love and returns to heaven after learning the secret of reviving the dead. Devayani then marries Yayati with her father's consent and bears him two sons: Yadu and Turvasu. She is jealous of Sharmishtha and curses Yayati with old age when she discovers his affair with her.
Sharmishtha: The second wife of Yayati. She is the daughter of Vrishaparva, the king of the asuras. She is humble, loyal, devoted, and compassionate. She becomes friends with Devayani when they study together under Shukracharya. However, due to a misunderstanding, Devayani insults her and throws her into a well. Yayati rescues her from the well and falls in love with her. He secretly marries her with her father's permission and bears him three sons: Druhyu, Anu, and Puru. She suffers from Devayani's wrath and Yayati's neglect but remains faithful to him till the end.
Puru: The youngest son of Yayati and Sharmishtha. He is noble, virtuous, selfless, and obedient. He agrees to exchange his youth with his father for a thousand years out of respect and gratitude.
